Cam Torrens is a writer, reader, runner, and ruminator who has served 30 years as an Air Force pilot, US Diplomat to Beijing, and Professor of Aerospace Studies at Virginia Tech.
He also happens to be passionate about fitness and the power of movement, having hiked the Appalachian Trail at the age of 52 and has run 7 Ultra Marathons. He is also the father of six, the President of Buena Vista Public Library Board, VP of Central Colorado Writers, incident commander with Chaffee County Search and Rescue, author, and creator of the Tyler Zahn Suspense Novels.
Cam explains that he has always had a deep love for books and reading, and upon retiring from the Air Force and inspired by his favorite authors in the genre he loved, decided to launch his own writing career. After all, how hard could it be?
He soon found out it was much harder than he thought, but also very rewarding as well. He describes how he developed the story line as well as the main character, Tyler Zahn. He also shares his personal writing strategy, how he manages to maintain a busy schedule which includes writing, running, reading, fitness, family time, community service, and exploring other areas of interest.
Cam describes his writing process, including his personal strategy of writing 1,000 words a day while balancing family life and his extracurricular activities. He also encourages listeners how to stay fit and active at every age, the importance of trying new things, getting out of our comfort zone, staying engaged with our communities, and so much more.
